Blood
Work
Michelle's Comments
The previews for Blood Work lead you to believe you’re in for a suspenseful
movie-watching experience. Be prepared to be let down. Clint Eastwood still
fills a screen with his presence but the movie was predictable and a little
slow. The dialogue was stilted and there was no real chemistry between any of
the characters. Wanda De Jesus as Graciella Rivers (the sister of the dead woman)
was void of sincere feeling of loss and elicited no sympathy from me.
Dan's Comments
Blood Work is Clint Eastwood's worst effort as a director and as an actor.
The dialouge was stilted, the action was muddled and the movie didn't really
have a point. Especially bad were the scenes between Anjelica Huston and Eastwood
where each delivers an over-dramatic line about Eastwood's heart condition,
the camera switches to the other, pause and the other actor delivers the next
over-dramatic line.
Another example of shoddy movie making is the climax scene onboard an abandoned
freighter. The scene is dark and shows the actors playing a cat & mouse
game in the ship's warren of passageways. Because the scene was so dark and
the viewer is given no guideposts with which to measure the relative progress
of the good guys, there is no suspense in scene.
I won't give anything away here but the story is pretty typical of the serial
killer sub-genre. The killer is always trying to duel with the investigator,
is always closer than the police suspect and there's always a jurisdiction battle
between cops. Unlike other genres like submarine movies, serial killer movies
don't ever seem to add much to the movie lexicon. Silence of the Lambs
and maybe Summer of Sam about did it for me in the serial killer department.
I don't need to see this kind of film every year.
